SOL REPUBLIC
PUNK | Big Sound, Pocket Size.
THE ASK
I partnered with Sol Republic’s design team to design a new portable Bluetooth speaker that seamlessly integrates into their product line. I audited their Deck speaker to identify key design language attributes, ensuring brand continuity across the lineup.
-
I designed a rugged portable Bluetooth speaker that stood out in a highly competitive market, expanding Sol Republic’s reach to new users while strengthening their product lineup. The design not only boosted brand recognition and attracted new customers but also reinforced loyalty among their existing audience, solidifying their position in the portable speaker landscape.
-
This speaker project marked the first of four collaborations with Sol Republic, including package design and audio accessories
-
I was hired as an independent contractor to lead the conceptualization and design of the product. I developed multiple concepts emphasizing functional attributes for portable speakers, such as universal attachment mechanisms and optimized sound directionality. I guided the project from initial ideation through to final CAD design

APPROACH
First, audit the existing Deck speaker to identify core design language elements to carry into the Punk speaker. Next, explore universal mounting concepts, enabling use as a “wearable” speaker or bike accessory. Prioritize robust designs that integrate seamlessly with the brand language without compromising functionality.
Translating Existing Design Language
I analyzed the Sol Republic Deck speaker - Punk’s larger sibling - to identify key design elements to carry over, ensuring a consistent design language across the speaker family.
